Teachers Bob and Ellen Kaplan will give a lecture on O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil at the Educação 360º (360º Education) event, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro-RJ on September 5th and 6th. The event is organized by O Globo and Extra newspapers in partnership with SESC and the Rio de Janeiro City Government. Among the confirmed speakers are the French anthropologist, sociologist and philosopher Edgar Morin, one of the most important thinkers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries; Pierre Levy, French philosopher and thinker, a pioneer in the study of cyberculture and the impact of new technologies on the society and education; and José Francisco Soares, president of the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (INEP).
The Kaplan teachers will talk about The Math Circle approach, which encourages children to participate in Math classes in an active, participatory and creative way, in which errors are transformed into educational tools. They will explain about O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil, a project that brings the approach to the country and has already benefited 7,000 students from 10 cities in all five Brazilian regions.
Bob and Ellen Kaplan’s lecture will take place on September 6th from 4:30pm to 5:30pm in Novas Tecnologias Room at Escola Sesc de Ensino Médio (Avenida Ayrton Senna, 5677, Jacarepaguá), where the event is held. Educação 360° will have four magna conferences, four plenary tables, 40 thematic sessions and an exhibition of films.
