Espaço Ciência, from Olinda-PE, is promoting improvements in its scientific education and promotion actions with support from Instituto TIM. The museum in Pernambuco is one of the entities that benefits from Instituto TIM’s line of support for science and technology museums and centers. The institute subsidizes scientific education initiatives aimed at children and youths throughout the country.
The investment has allowed the purchase of materials for social and travelling projects promoted by Espaço Ciência and for the maintenance of facilities; the renovation of the exhibit collection, with new equipment and experiments; and the acquisition of 50 tablets, used for social inclusion projects and the digital program CLICidadão. In addition, three school buses were purchased to take students and teachers from public schools in Recife-PE and Olinda to the museum.
“These buses will increase annual visitation to Espaço Ciência by 80,000. It is a very significant contribution,” said the director of Espaço Ciência, Antonio Carlos Pavão. “Like all museums, Espaço Ciência is a live organism, one that must constantly present something new. The support from Instituto TIM is of the utmost importance for investments in innovation,” he stated. The total public involved in activities supported by Instituto TIM is 200,000 visitors.
Besides Espaço Ciência, other entities that have received support include the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences, in Rio de Janeiro-RJ; the Museum of Natural Sciences, connected to the Federal University of Paraná, in Curitiba-PR; Espaço do Conhecimento UFMG, in Belo Horizonte-MG; and Emílio Goeldi Museum in Pará, in Belém-PA. More than 100,000 people have already benefited from Instituto TIM’s line of support for science and technology museums and centers.
