On September 8th and 9th, the first meetings of the work groups to define the directives for implementing the TIM Tec software at the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology (IFs) were held. The initiative is being carried out by Instituto TIM with the support of the Department of Professional and Technological Education (Setec), part of the Ministry of Education, aiming at contributing to professional and technological education by means of sharing TIM Tec courses and technology for free.
IFs will have their own online and open course platforms created by using the TIM Tec software. At the meetings held in São Paulo-SP, the groups formed by Setec and IF representatives discussed how IFs will develop and implement their platforms, produce and share new contents and define an implementation schedule.
The meeting was also an opportunity for participants to find out more about the TIM Tec software and clarify any doubts they had with the program staff. The opinions were very positive. “The group was exposed to the best knowledge there could be, even more so because it has already set a practical performance schedule. So the platform knowledge was well absorbed. Now we will consolidate this so that other Institutes can begin all deployments,” says Francismara Alves de Oliveira Lima, Setec representative.
One of the points highlighted by the participants was the possibility of customizing the software according to the needs of each IF. The Institutes will be able to adapt the platforms with the functionalities of their preference and include contents of their own, in addition to making use of courses already provided by TIM Tec. “Even though we have not developed specific contents yet, the TIM Tec courses will already be made available to IFs, each one with its own identity. By the beginning of next year, we want to have the platform fully deployed and in operation according to the concepts that are most interesting to us,” says Agnaldo Freire, representative of IF Baiano.
Setec representative Paulo Vinícius Zanchet Maciel explains that the objective is to expand the use of the platform throughout IFs. “We expect to motivate the Institutes to deploy and use the platform, making general and extension courses available to the public, and gradually turn the platform into something important, gaining prominence in all the Institutes,” he concludes. IF managers will participate in a qualification course to learn how to use the platform in the beginning of November in Brasilia-DF.
The meeting was also attended by Luis Otoni Ribeiro, from IF Sul-rio-grandense; Maria Gorette Falcão, from IF Amazonas; Jerônimo Pereira dos Santos, from IF Rio Grande do Norte; Alexandre Pereira Chahad, from IF São Paulo; Miguel Fabrício Zamberlan, from IF Rondônia; Breno Fabrício Terra Azevedo, from IF Rio de Janeiro; and Márcio Warris Monteiro, from IF Pará.
