Between October 19th and 25th, the 12th edition of the National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT) will take place, promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). Over 2,000 institutions in 621 Brazilian municipalities will organize free activities on the subject, open to the entire population. And Instituto TIM will also be part of this great event. The president of Instituto TIM, Manoel Horacio, will participate today at 3pm in the official opening of SNCT at the Exhibition Pavilion of the City Park, in Brasília-DF. During the ceremony, it will be made the official announcement of the first public notive to support science and technology museums and centers, launched by Instituto TIM in partnership with the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) – find out more here.
Instituto TIM also participates in SNCT as the programme’s supporter in Brasília and other activities that will take place during the week. The opening of the Municipal Week of Science, Technology and Innovation in Santo André-SP, which is part of the programme of SNCT 2015, will also have a lecture by professor José Sérgio Fonseca de Carvalho. Associate professor of Philosophy of Education at the University of São Paulo (USP) and author of texts and lessons of the teaching material of TIM Faz Ciência, José Sérgio will speak on “Science as a critical tradition or why to teach science in school”. The lecture will be held on the 19th at 7pm at the Municipal Theatre of Santo André.
O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil will promote events in Brasília-DF and in São Luís-MA. Economist Flávio Comim will hold a lecture in Brasília in the 20th at 4pm on the “Approach and Results of O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil”. Also in Brasília, educators from Círculo will hold sessions every hour (from 8am to 6pm) on the 23rd with the topic “O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil: a relaxed and innovative way of teaching Math”. In São Luís, Flávio will give on the 23rd the lecture “O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil: Mathematics and development”, at Maria Aragão Square at 6pm.
On the 20th, Espaço Ciência, in Olinda-PE, will launch the three school buses fleet acquired with the support of Instituto TIM, as part of the supporting line to science and technology museums and centers. The buses will be used to take public school students and teachers from Olinda, Recife-PE and neighboring cities to the museum. And to celebrate the launch, students from Professora Inês Borba School, in Olinda, will visit Espaço Ciência and will be able to see the activities organized for SNCT.
The coordinator of SNCT and director of the Department of Popularization and Dissemination of Science and Technology of the MCTI, Douglas Falcão, explains that this edition of the Week broke the record of participating institutions and the numbers are expected to increase, since many institutions will continue their activities until the end of the year. “It is a reflection that the institutions are realizing that when we have people informed about and trained in science and technology, their relationship with S&T changes both as a consumer and as a protagonist,” he states. “We hope that the partnership with Instituto TIM and other institutions will continue, because in the end the beneficiaries are the Brazilian people,” completes.
