To close the 2016 activities, the Bateria do Instituto TIM (Instituto TIM Drumming Band) made a special presentation on November 26th along with the project Portadores do Ritmo (Rhythm Carriers). The two groups made a free presentation at Fernando Pessoa Square, in Catete District, at Rio de Janeiro (RJ), for an audience of approximately 150 people. The presentation also featured the participation of drummer and member of Cordão do Boitatá Rodrigo Scofield.
As well as the Bateria of the Instituto TIM, the project Portadores do Ritmo is directed towards people with disabilities and is focused on social inclusion through music – in particular, through percussion. The project is sponsored by the actor, singer and composer Sérgio Loroza and the drummer of Barão Vermelho band, Guto Goffi.
In Saturday presentation, the audience enjoyed traditional beats of Rio drumming bands and other Brazilian rhythms. Each group presented their repertoire for then, playing together. The Bateria do Instituto TIM, conducted by Mestre Mangueirinha was accompanied by a trio of musicians who played keyboards, trumpet and tenor sax.
The repertoire consisted of Carnival rhythms and classics of samba, baião and ciranda, such as “Maracangalha” (Dorival Caymmi), “Aquarela do Brasil” (Ary Barroso), “Ciranda da Rosa Vermelha” and “Morena Tropicana” (Alceu Valença) and “Xote das Meninas” (Luiz Gonzaga and Zé Dantas).
