From July 11 to 15, registration for new participants of the Bateria do Instituto TIM will be open. The project, created in 2010, aims to promote the inclusion of children and young people with and without disabilities, through music, and is held in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Inspired by the traditional samba school baterias, the group is led by master Mangueirinha, along with musicians/monitors and interpreters of the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras).
In 2021, the Bateria was composed of 50 members, aged between 6 and 18, many with various disabilities (hearing, visual, mental). In this edition, we will continue what was new last year, with more challenges and learning for the students: along with the percussion classes, there will also be body expression and singing classes through playful activities, as well as body and vocal exercises. The percussionists will participate in weekly rehearsals, classes, and public performances. Now in 2022, classes will again be face-to-face and not remotely as they were in 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bateria TIM was created as part of the TIM Música nas Escolas project based on the premise that teaching music can positively influence other forms of learning and stimulate the development of a culture of peace. It is worth mentioning that this edition is a Salvatore’s realization in partnership with the Artur da Távola Municipal Reference Centre for Rio de Janeiro Music, and sponsored by TIM through the Incentive Law of Rio de Janeiro State’s Secretary of Culture.
The classes are free! Click here to access the regulation.
