7 years promoting education, science and technology in Brazil

This month, Instituto TIM celebrates 7 years since its foundation, in August 2013. With a national presence, its actions and projects reached more than 500 municipalities, in the 26 states and the Federal District, benefiting more than 700 thousand people. In all these years, the TIM Institute has remained steadfast in its purpose of democratizing science, technology and innovation, promoting human development in Brazil, either through its own initiatives or by supporting projects of organizations that work towards this same objective. Throughout this trajectory, Instituto TIM created and adapted, for the Brazilian reality, methodologies for math teaching and Sciences Elementary School through projects The Circle of Mathematics in Brazil and TIM Does Science – 5,000 teachers were trained, impacting 350,000 students. For university students, Instituto TIM developed the program Academic Working Capital, which supports graduates who want to transform their Graduation Work into technology-based companies – 50 startups have already been created. In partnership with city halls and agencies such as UNICEF, the TIM Institute has developed 6 technological applications especially aimed at public management in areas such as education, culture, urban janitorial, questionnaire collection – free software in line with the most advanced principles of open government and smart cities. “We are proud of the achievements of the past seven years and already thinking about the future. The transformation that we have brought into the lives of thousands of people motivates us to move forward, especially at the present moment, where technology, science and entrepreneurship are relevant to the country’s development. The current focus is to build correlations in the social investment ecosystem, with partnerships that further strengthen the solid foundation of Instituto TIM ”, says the president of Instituto TIM, Mario Girasole. An example is the Instituto TIM-OBMEP Scholarships, carried out in partnership with the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad of Public Schools (OBMEP), which allow talented young people from low income to dedicate themselves fully to Higher Education. The initiative Garatéa-ISS it takes student science experiments into space and drives the study of space science in schools. The results of these actions are more than 250 supported university students and 141 space science experiments created by students from all over Brazil. Always updated with the economic and social context of Brazil, this year, Instituto TIM has dedicated efforts to make life easier for people in the midst of the global pandemic of COVID-19. Subscriptions to TIM Tec plataform, of free and free online courses, increased 200% in the first half of 2020 – allowing more than 100 thousand Brazilians to use the period of social isolation to improve their professional skills. THE TIM Institute Battery, music education program for people with and without disabilities, transferred his essays to the virtual environment. The 2020 selection of the Academic Working Capital program is aimed at projects that collaborate to combat the challenges of post-pandemic Brazil.
