The 20th International Telecommunications Society Biennial Conference (ITS 2014), which is being held in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), was officially opened on the morning of December 1st with a lecture by the minister of Communications, Paulo Bernardo. To the 200 people who attended the ceremony, the minister listed digital inclusion as one of the challenges for the telecommunications sector for the next years in order to ensure network access to all people by strengthening infrastructure.
“We want more Brazilians in all regions of Brazil connected to this revolution, to the internet,” said Paulo Bernardo. According to the minister, the country will move increasingly stronger in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
The opening table of ITS 2014 also included Eric Bohlin, president of ITS, Rodrigo Abreu, TIM’s CEO, Igor de Freitas, member of the Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Agency – Anatel, and Mario Girasole, Instituto TIM’s general manager. Mario Girasole presented Instituto TIM and listed some of its projects, such as O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil and Academic Working Capital. The participants of the ITS 2014 also watched the institutional video that addresses the principles of Instituto TIM’s initiatives.
With the theme “The Net and the Internet: Emerging markets and policies”, ITS 2014 brings together Brazilian and foreign professionals and experts in the telecommunication industries. The event will be held until December 3rd at the Sheraton hotel, in Rio de Janeiro.
