The classes of O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil in 2015 have already begun. This year, new cities participate in the project: Manaus-AM, Marabá-PA and Novo Hamburgo-RS. Besides them, also participate in the project the municipalities of Aracaju-SE, Belém-PA, Brasília-DF, Duque de Caxias-RJ, Fortaleza-CE, Porto Alegre-RS, Porto Velho-RO, Rio de Janeiro-RJ and São Paulo-SP. Through O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil, The Math Circle approach is taken to small groups of children in the 2nd to 4th years of Primary School in public schools.
The project’s classes have already started in Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias (March 3rd), Aracaju (March 5th), Belém and Marabá (March 9th), Fortaleza (March 12th), São Paulo and Brasília (March 16th), Porto Alegre and Novo Hamburgo (March 17th). Only in Manaus and Porto Velho the sessions are yet to begin. An innovation is that the best educators of the 2014 team were selected to join a group of multiplier educators.
Last year, the project’s educators gave 14,166 lessons of O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil to 7,912 students in 67 schools in 10 municipalities. In addition, training sessions were held with nearly 300 teachers from schools participating in the project in São Paulo, Brasília, Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro.
