Registration is open for the 2016 Instituto TIM-OBMEP Scholarships, for students awarded at the Brazilian Public School Math Olympics (OBMEP). It will cover 50 awarded students who joined Higher Education this year in public universities. Each one will receive a monthly stipend of R$ 1,200 for 12 months, renewable annually up to a maximum of 48 months. The form for registration – open until February 15 – and further information is available on OBMEP website.
To apply, students must be enrolled in programs in Astronomy, Biology, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and three new programs: Medicine, Economics and Architecture. Cláudio Landim, general coordinator of OBMEP and deputy director of the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), says that in 2015 there were many candidates from programs that were not part of the notice. “In order not to exclude these brilliant students, we have included new programs,” he explains.
Claudio also points out the great increase to the notice last year and the quality of the students enrolled. “We gave the opportunity to many talented students who could not afford to go to college to study at public universities. I was surprised by the candidates who showed up, with high grades on ENEM,” he says. “Thanks to the Instituto TIM-OBMEP Scholarships, students can continue their studies and build their careers,” he adds.
The selection of candidates will be made by representatives of the IMPA with the support of Instituto TIM, which will use as criteria the academic quality and financial needs of students. The result will be published on OBMEP’s website within 15 business days after registration closes. In 2015, the year the Instituto TIM-OBMEP Scholarship was launched, 50 awarded students were benefited and began to receive their grant in April.
