Young people who are entering the university and have been gold, silver or bronze medalists in any edition of the Brazilian Public School Math Olympics (OBMEP) can already apply for the 2019 edition of Instituto TIM-OBMEP Scholarships. This is the 5th edition of the initiative, a partnership between the Instituto TIM and the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), which allows young talents in mathematics with limited financial resources to attend Higher Education.
Entries must be made on the website bolsatim.obmep.org.br and are closed on March 26. 50 students will be selected. Competitors need to be approved to study at a public university, beginning in the first semester of 2019, in the courses of Astronomy, Biology, Computing, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Medicine or Chemistry. The criteria for the selection of scholarship include academic performance and family income.
Since 2016, more than 200 university students have been enrolled in Instituto TIM-OBMEP Scholarships. Participating students receive a monthly grant of BRL 1,200 for 12 months, which can be renewed for up to 48 months.
Candidates will be selected and evaluated by a committee made up of IMPA representatives. Result will be released on April 11 in the restricted area of each candidate on the web page.
