The TIM Institute was present at the award ceremony of the 15th Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP) as one of the honorees among the personalities who helped build the history of the Olympics. The event took place in Salvador (BA), on November 7, referring to the tournament that took place in 2019, but which could not be celebrated the following year due to the pandemic.
Aimed at students from the 6th year of Elementary School to the 3rd year of High School, the OBMEP encourages the study of Mathematics and identifies young talents in the discipline. More than 54 thousand schools entered this edition, which awarded 443 students from all over Brazil.
The ceremony brought a special moment this year, an acknowledgment of the figures that had a positive impact on the tournament throughout its history. 16 personalities were honored, including Mr. Mário Girasole, president of TIM Institute who was represented by the director of TIM Institute, Marcio Couto Lino.
The TIM Institute has been a partner of OBMEP since 2015. The most prominent supported initiatives are scholarships aimed at medalists about to enter Higher Education, in addition to support for the Mathematics Portal (portaldaobmep.impa.br). For this edition of the ceremony, 40 smartphone-type devices (5G) were donated by the TIM Institute and raffled among the winning students.
