Training sessions for the TIM Faz Ciência program, an Instituto TIM initiative aimed at teachers and students of the 4th and 5th grades of Primary School, begin in April. The first will be held in São Bernardo do Campo-SP, on the 24th, and in Porto Alegre-RS, on the 24th and 26th. Over 2,000 educators will take part in the program in 2014, during which they are invited to teach Science through seven intellectual operations used to produce scientific knowledge: observing, verifying, classifying, questioning, defining, applying and generalizing.
In São Bernardo do Campo, participating teachers will be welcomed by a team from the Municipal Department of Education and will attend an opening lesson with professor José Sérgio Carvalho – an associate professor of Philosophy of Education at USP, who also presents the video lessons which are part of TIM Faz Ciência. Also present will be professor Cesar Nunes, a PhD in Physics from the Technical University of Munich who specialized in Teaching for Educational Understanding and Evaluation at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
During the sessions, participants will learn about the program and will receive teaching materials kits for TIM Faz Ciência. Each kit contains 7 Teacher’s Books on each of the 7 intellectual operations; 1 Teacher’s Book with instructions on the activities; 35 Student’s Books; 1 double DVD with video-lessons by professor José Sérgio Carvalho and stories told by Kiara Terra; as well as a bag, where all the material is kept.
The kits with teaching materials will be sent to the Education authorities from the second half of April.
