Instituto TIM, through the TIM Faz Ciência program, took part in the opening of Education Week in Petrópolis-RJ, held on the morning of June 8th, at the Catholic University of Petrópolis. The event was organized by the Municipal Department of Education and offered lectures, workshops, meetings and cultural presentations. During the opening of the event, Instituto TIM representative Luiz Claudio Fortes spoke about the institute’s involvement and about TIM Faz Ciência, which has 2,053 students, 68 teachers and 30 municipal schools taking part.
The opening speech for Education Week was presented by the PhD in Physics Cesar Nunes, one of those responsible for overseeing the preparation of the program’s educational material. The subject of the presentation was educational assessment, based on the work conducted in 2014 with teachers receiving grants through TIM Faz Ciência. Cesar explained how students can conduct self-assessments using concepts that are presented in a language suited to them. This way, children are able to understand the reach of their knowledge. Teachers are also able to make self-assessments and assist colleague in the process, as in the case of those who received grants from the program last year.
The second formation meeting of 2015 in Petrópolis also took place on the first day of the event. During the afternoon, Cesar met with teachers part of the program to speak about evaluation rubrics, the type of formative assessment used in the teaching material. Teachers took advantage of the meeting to share their doubts and suggestions about the program.
