Professor José Sérgio Fonseca de Carvalho, associate professor of Philosophy of Education at the University of São Paulo (USP) and author of texts and lessons of the teaching material of TIM Faz Ciência, gave a lecture at the opening of the II Sharing Knowledge Congress. The event was organized by the Santo Amaro Regional Direction of Education (DRE), from São Paulo-SP, and held on September 25th and 26th at CEU Alvarenga.
José Sérgio was invited after the 3rd TIM Faz Ciência training meeting at Santo Amaro DRE, on August 3rd. The professor was responsible for the training, and the DRE team wanted to share the presentation’s content with other teachers in the network. “TIM Faz Ciência created a bond with the Santo Amaro DRE which solidified beyond the program,” said José Sérgio.
The lecture had some adjustments to cover all public school teachers, not just those who participate in TIM Faz Ciência. The topic was “The crisis in contemporary education and the school form”. “The focus of the lecture was the feeling we have that education is going through a time of crisis, based on the philosophy that characterizes school,” José Sérgio explains. The teacher made a reflection on the role of schools both to transmit knowledge and to train individuals.
The II Sharing Knowledge Congress was attended by about 80 teachers, who reported successful initiatives in the classroom. The opening ceremony also included a presentation by Sonia Aparecida Marcon de Barros, regional director of Education of Santo Amaro, and Cícera Batista da Silva, director of Technical and Pedagogical Guidance of Santo Amaro DRE, as well as a debate about capoeira.
