Aiming to bring science and technology closer to the population, the 13rd edition of the National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT 2016) takes place from October 17th to 23rd, promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications. Instituto TIM participates on this event, and some of the projects contemplated by the public notice to support science and technology museus and centers developed special activities for the occasion. Check out some examples:
Belo Horizonte (MG)
The team of the project “Quero ser um cientista!” (I want to be a scientist!), from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), will launch the children’s book “Gnose: uma aventura no mundo do conhecimento” (Gnosis: an adventure in the knowledge world), which approaches energy and the profession of scientist. There will be an exhibition of models about the types of energy and drawings made by the participating schools’ students. The activities will occur throughout the SNCT in Mineirão stadium from 8:30 am to 6 pm during the week and from 9 am to 6 pm over the weekend.
The Itinerant Museum Ponto UFMG will be open to the public throughout the SNCT. The museum works inside a truck divided into six environments. There will be workshops and exhibition of 40 interactive experiments. The activities are part of the “Ponto de Luz” (Spot of light) project, of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
Campinas (SP)
The exhibition “Jogos de Luz” (Games of Light), from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), starts together with the SNCT in the Planetarium of the Dynamic Science Museum, at Portugal Park/Taquaral Lake (entrance 5), in which it remains for three months. The experiments are part of the project “Arcos do céu: jogos e brincadeiras com a luz” (Bows in the sky: games and play with light) and bring concepts about light and optical phenomena to children, focusing the age group of 7 to 10 year-old.
Rio de Janeiro (RJ)
Children may participate in a course that involves storytelling, holography, 3D video, digital games and other activities. The activity is part of the project “Criação de vídeo 3D, holograma e jogo digital para apresentar a energia solar como fonte de geração de energia elétrica por meio de um espaço de ciência itinerante” (Creation of 3D video, hologram and digital game to present solar energy as source of electrical energy generation through an itinerant science space), of Carioca University Center (Unicarioca). Children can also make drawings and collages, which will be exhibited on a wall. Activities will be held on October 19th at Pedro II School and on October 21st and 22nd, starting at 9 am, at the university.
Duque de Caxias (RJ)
The exhibition “Ciência alimentando o Museu Ciência e Vida” (Science feeding the Science and Life Museum) will be on display at the Science and Life Museum, of the CECIERJ Foundation, between October 17th and 23rd. Visits will take place with prior scheduling of schools and the museum will provide transportation to students. The initiative is by the project “Luz, câmera e sombras – revelando a fotografia” (Light, camera and shadows – revealing photography).
Barra Mansa (RJ)
The Interactive Science Museum of South Fluminense (MICInense) will have a special visit to its exhibition on light on October 18th, from 2 pm to 5 pm. On the same date, the second module of the workshop for teachers from Verbo Divino School will be held. The workshop is part of the project “Uma luz para as crianças: o MICInense popularizando a ciência no interior do estado” (A light to children: MICInense making science popular in the interior of the state). In the place, there will be a series of lectures and other activities throughout the day. In addition, there will be a photo exhibition from 10 am to 5 pm open to audience of all age groups.
Salvador (BA)
The Federal Institute of Bahia (IFBA) offers the lecture “Science and technology for everyone: inclusive education in science teaching” on October 18th, at 9 am in Auditorium I from IFBA. In the afternoon, there will be the workshop “Physics education for the visually impaired”, starting at 4 pm in the Physics Auditorium. The initiative is from the project “Estação Ciência IFBA – um espaço de educação e divulgação sobre a luz para o público infantil” (Science Station IFBA – a space of education and propagation on light to children).
Natal (RN)
In the City Park, the audience can interact with experiments about light and participate in an experiment with shadows and lights in a dark room. The activities are part of the “Luz em sete tons” (Light in seven shades) project, of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN), and will be held on October 20th and 21st.
Campina Grande (PB)
The “Luz, cores, ação!” (Light, colors, action!) project, by the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), will carry out many activities between October 18th and 23rd. One of them is a camera obscura workshop aimed to children between the ages 6 to 10, on the 18th starting at 2 pm, at EEEF Reitor Edvaldo do Ó. On the 21st, there will be a play and a workshop for children starting at 2 pm in the Educational Center of Integrated Activities. On Sunday, there will be the “Physics in the park” meeting, starting at 3 pm at the Children Park.
Boa Vista (RR)
The audience can watch part of a children’s theater play of the project “Teatro científico para divulgar a óptica em Roraima” (Scientific theater to disclose optics in Roraima), from the State University of Roraima (UERR). The premier of the play will occur in November, but the first of the three acts – that approaches the atmospheric changes – will be anticipated to the audience during the SCNT. The presentation will happen on October 21st at UERR auditorium.
Macapá (AP)
The “Tenda educativa de jogos – Brincar e aprender com a luz” (Educational tent of games – Play and learn with light) project will be presented by a team from the State University of Amapá (UEAP) on October 21st, during the UEAP Extension Exhibit. The magazine created for the project will be disclosed at the time. The project consists of creating games and activities about light, solar energy and sustainability for the toy library of the university and for itinerant activities in the public network.
Manacapuru (AM)
The project “Luz da vida: ciência que alimenta a Amazônia” (Light of life: science that feeds the Amazon), from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Amazonas (IFAM), will promote games, presentations and a science fair for children on October 25th, from 8 am to 4 pm, at Ciranda Flor Matizada building. The morning activities will be intended to the 13 municipal schools that participated in the project, and the afternoon ones, to other schools invited. A booklet on photosynthesis will be launched on the same date.
Lábrea (AM)
The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Amazonas (IFAM) will have activities aimed at SNCT from October 17th to 21st. On October 19th, the coordinator of the project “Caminhos da luz: o uso de recursos interativos para a compreensão dos fenômenos luminosos por estudantes do ensino fundamental da região Amazônica” (Paths of light: the use of interactive resources to understand light phenomena by students of elementary school in the Amazon region) will speak at the Lábrea campus about the activities that the team has developed in a lecture about technological innovation.
Catalão (GO)
The project “A narrativa literária construindo saberes em física” (Literary narrative building knowledge on physics), of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), will be presented during the 13th Congress of Research, Teaching and Extension (CONPEEX) of UFG from October 17th to 19th, in Goiânia. The congress is free and open to the public. There will be round tables, presentations of scientific papers, workshops, short courses and seminars.
Blumenau (SC)
Children will be able to test solar-powered games and set their own experiments. The initiative comes from projects “Sociedade Renovável” (Renewable Society) and “Luz, fonte de energia e vida!” (Light, source of energy and life!), from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). A series of experiments related to renewable energies will be presented.
Chapecó (SC)
At the Pinhalzinho (SC) campus, the project “Luz fonte de vida – divulgação científico-tecnológica no oeste catarinense” (Light source of life – scientific and technological disclosure in the west of Santa Catarina), of the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), will participate in the event “UDESC with Open Doors”, focused on presenting the university to High School students. A Mobile Digital Planetarium will be assembled on October 18th, 19th and 20th to work the themes of the universe and light pollution.
Bagé (RS)
The exhibition produced by the project “À luz da ciência na Educação Infantil” (To the light of science in Preschool), of the Federal University of Pampa (Unipampa), will start on October 17th and ends on November 15th. Children are greeted by a hologram and observe telescopes, mirrors, microscopes and other materials. Drawings made by the students will be exhibited. The visit is open to children from public and private schools at Pedro Wayne Culture House, from 9 am to 11 am and from 2 pm to 4 pm.
