On December 2nd, the Bateria do Instituto TIM (Instituto TIM Drumming Band) ended the 2017 activities in style: with a presentation at the opening of the Tiradentes Cultural event. This edition of the event, held monthly in Praça Tiradentes (Rio de Janeiro-RJ), honored the National Samba Day, celebrated on the same date. 50 percussionists participated in Bateria’s presentation, among children, young people and adults, conducted by Mestre Mangueirinha. A quartet of musicians accompanied the percussion with keyboard, trumpet, trombone and tenor sax.
The repertoire of Bateria was composed by Brazilian rhythms such as samba, baião and ciranda mixed with the traditional beats of Rio de Janeiro drumming bands. Maracangalha (Dorival Caymmi), Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso), Ciranda da Rosa Vermelha and Morena Tropicana (Alceu Valença) and Xote das Meninas (Luiz Gonzaga and Zé Dantas) were some of the songs presented by the musicians, who received many compliments at the end.
The Tiradentes Cultural event was attended by around 300 people and also featured other musical performances, gastronomic and handicraft fairs, storytelling, screen-printing workshop and other attractions. This was the first participation of the Bateria do Instituto TIM in the event, at the invitation of the organization.
