Instituto TIM ended 2014 with the mark of 80,000 people directly benefited through its projects throughout Brazil. The institution continues in 2015 with over 10 initiatives underway. Among them are O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil, TIM Faz Ciência, Mapas Culturais, ZUP – Zeladoria Urbana Participativa and TIM Tec projects.
One of the highlights last year was O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil. Through it, students from 2nd to 4th year of Primary School participate in recreational and cooperative classes where participation and self-reflection are encouraged, according to the teaching approach created by Harvard University professors Bob and Ellen Kaplan. In 2014, over 14,000 classes of the project were held in 67 public schools of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Duque de Caxias, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Salvador, Fortaleza, Aracaju, Belém and Porto Velho, which benefited around 8,000 students.
The TIM Faz Ciência program also presented positive results. Created to invite students and educators to explore the intellectual operations (observing, verifying, classifying, questioning, developing, applying and generalizing) for the production of scientific knowledge, the action reached 251 municipalities, benefiting around 70,000 students and training over two thousand educators.
