Instituto TIM was honored at the official opening of the 12th National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT), promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). The opening took place on October 20th at the Exhibition Pavilion of the City Park, in Brasília-DF. During the event, the executive secretary of MCTI, Emília Ribeiro, made the official announcement of the first public notice to support science and technology museums and centers, launched by Instituto TIM in partnership with the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Emília handed to the president of Instituto TIM, Manoel Horacio, an acknowledgement plaque for their partnership in launching the public notice.
“I want to emphasize that we need more partners like the Instituto TIM. This type of collaboration and this partnership for science, research, education and training is very important for the country,” said the executive secretary of MCTI in her speech. “I would like to thank this honorable tribute, which is a milestone for Instituto TIM. This event is extremely important, as it aims to bring science and technology closer to the population,” said Manoel Horacio at the opening.
Participation in the SNCT
SNCT was held between October 19th to 25th in more than 600 Brazilian municipalities. In addition to supporting the program in Brasília, Instituto TIM contributed with other activities.
On the 19th, professor José Sérgio de Carvalho, associate professor of Philosophy of Education at the University of São Paulo (USP) and author of texts and lessons of the teaching material of TIM Faz Ciência, held the lecture “Science as a critical tradition or why to teach science in school” at the opening of the Municipal Week of Science, Technology and Innovation in Santo André-SP. The event was part of SNCT and was attended by the deputy mayor of Santo André and municipal secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology, Oswana Fameli.
Economist Flávio Comim conducted two lectures of O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil. The first was held in Brasilia on the 20th, on “Approaches and results of O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil”. Among the authorities present were the secretary of Education of the Federal District, Júlio Gregório. In São Luís-MA a lecture was held on the 23th with the topic “O Círculo da Matemática do Brasil: Mathematics and development”, which was attended by the state secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation, Bira do Pindaré. Also on the 23rd, in Brasília, Círculo educators conducted a circuit of activities using the approach. The sessions took place every hour for about 250 students from public schools.
Instituto TIM also supported the visit of 80 students from Professora Inês Borba School to Espaço Ciência, in Olinda-PE, to check out the activities scheduled for SNCT. Students and teachers had at their disposal three school buses, purchased by Espaço Ciência with the support of Instituto TIM as part of the line of support to science and technology museums and centers (further information here). The representative of Instituto TIM Felipe Leão accompanied the action, which took place on the 20th.
