Events and launch of Mapas in DF

June 29th and 30th were marked by three events of great importance for Mapas Culturais project: the III Meeting of Mapas Culturais Network, the I Meeting of the Cultural Information Articulation Network and the launch of Mapa nas Nuvens, the installation of Mapas Culturais in the Federal District (DF). The launch took place on June 30th and closed the meetings schedule in Brasília (DF), held at the National Museum. Public managers, cultural agents, researchers and authorities attended the event.

Mapa nas Nuvens was developed by Instituto TIM in partnership with the Department of Culture of the Federal District and the Creative Economy Observatory of the University of Brasília. “I am very happy to see a tool like this, which will be a public policy-making instrument. It is very important for people to follow-up the activities that are being performed, in order to realize the role of the creative economy and also that culture has a major role in Brasília”, said Rodrigo Rollemberg, governor of the Federal District.

The secretary of Culture of the Federal District, Guilherme Reis, told that Mapa nas Nuvens will give visibility to thousands of events that take place in DF, both small and huge events. “We want to expand this tool. This instrument will be turned into a culture indicator tool”, stated him. “Today we do not have this information, and that’s a battle for all of us.” Manoel Horacio, president of Instituto TIM, highlighted the importance of intersectorial partnerships to develop underlying public policies. “The power of this project is in this group that is interested and willing to work so that Mapas Culturais can be a relevant technology for its features and, above all, for its use,” he commented.

The III Meeting of Mapas Culturais Network brought together representatives of the seven municipalities and six states that have installations of the platform, besides the Federal District, and participants of digital culture collectives. During the two days of the meeting, they exchanged experiences and discussed suggestions, improvements and new features for Mapas Culturais software, reinforcing the democratic management and the collaborative work of the network. It was also held a meeting of the Cultural Indicators work group of the Federal District. The event was promoted by Instituto TIM in partnership with the Department of Culture of the Federal District.

In turn, the I Meeting of the Cultural Information Articulation Network was organized by a network of public managers, cultural agents and researchers that work with software, data and standards for cultural management. The purpose of the meeting was to establish principles and guidelines.
